  4. The following is a list of non-academic texts that may be of use or of interest to you. It is worth remember that these should, in all instances, be treated as data. They are primary texts that you may analyse but they should not be used as 'proof' of anything beyond the beliefs of a particular individual or group or a production company's perception of 'what the public wants'. This is in no way a definitive list, in many instances it is simply what popped into my head; you may well have your own ideas about what should be on this list. If so, then perhaps you could consider how the examples you have thought of might be incorporated into your assignment. Many of the books can be picked up relatively cheaply – second hand from eBay, Amazon and so on but also from charity shops. Oxfam in Derby has a relatively quickly changing 'New Age'/'Spirituality' section that might be worth browsing through.

  7. New Media 12 items
    1. Video and computer games offer too tough a challenge for me to confront - I don't play them a ggreat deal but am aware that many feature supernatural themes so I can acknowledge the presence of these themes without providing any representative list.

There are many, many websites which offer insight into people's belief in the supernatural. Again, there are so many potential examples that such a list seems almost superfluous. Nonetheless each of the following are good introductions to particular aspects of a broader understaning of 'supernatural belief'. You will notice that there is a Facebook group associated with this module. It's not yet become apparant what to do with this so I am more than happy to listen to your suggestions. Perhaps using the message boards there to complete a list of computer and video games with supernatural themes to go into next year's handbook?

  8. Weekly Overview 99 items
    1. Introduction 2 items
      1. An overview of the module's main themes. I have provided an extract from Purkiss below as it identifies the dangers of projecting contemporary concerns onto historical events; primarily it is a danger of losing sight of the original event as such in one's rush to claim solidarity with the agents or subject of thet history. Remember that this is an extract and interested students are strongly advised to read the chapter - indeed the book - as a whole, as is the case for all extracts given.
